The Ralph Lauren Automotive Chronograph

A few people are perhaps aware Ralph Lauren has an outstanding vintage and modern car collection and that in 2007 he launched a collection of fine timepieces named after him and engineered by the Richemont Group . This year, as we are approaching the SIHH 2015 , Ralph Lauren Watches has previewed the Ralph Lauren Automotive Chronograph made, for the very first time, in stainless steel as is the three hands Sporting Automotive version.

The Ralph Lauren Automotive Chronograph ’s dial draws inspiration from Ralph Lauren ’s own 1938 Bugatti Atlantic 57SC , one of the most highly sought after vintage cars that was on display at the 2013 Concorso di Eleganza di Villa d’Este . It is partially made from elm burl wood, by specially choosing those veneers that best resemble the Bugatti ’s dashboard. Since each veneer is selected individually for each timepiece, it means each watch replica is a unique piece.

The Richemont Group adopts the best technology when making the Ralph Lauren ’s timepieces. The outcome is that while the Sporting Automotive is for example powered by an IWC manufactured hand-wound movement, the three-counter Ralph Lauren Automotive Chronograph is powered by caliber RL751A/1 , an in-house 4Hz Jaeger Le Coultre caliber, encased into a 44,8mm wide stainless steel case that echoes the curvy car body’s design.
